Samsung has a new point-and-shoot; the new S830 is an 8.1-megapixel shooter with a 3x optical zoom and a large 2.7-inch LCD screen. It continues Samsung’s easy-to-use S-series of cameras.
Its dial mode accesses a range of 10 scene modes like Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Dawn, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks and Beach & Snow to help the user optimize the camera’s exposure settings.
It also features what Samsung calls an “E†(for effects) button to access several special effect functions – such as Color Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame and Composite Shot – effects that are sometimes funny, sometimes useful.
When set to Auto mode, the camera automatically adjusts the shooting distance and focus from between 4cm to infinity, to make close-up shots easier. For more detailed macro pictures the additional Macro mode allows close-up shots of subjects as close as 4cm.
The Samsung S830, like most cameras in its generation, also shoots movies in MPEG-4 VGA (640 x 480, 30fps).
