The new kid on the block is Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA100, launched Monday in the UK and billed as the most powerful full HD underwater dual camera ever. The same model debuted in Tokyo two months ago. The Sanyo CA100 is waterproof and shoots both HD footage and high resolution stills.
“Waterproof cameras are increasingly popular with those looking to shoot images and video when on the beach, in the pool or just outdoors in the unpredictable English weather,†said Dominic Jones, UK Marketing Manager at SANYO. “The Xacti CA100 brings a new level of quality to this arena, not only offering unrivalled full HD and 14 mega-pixel still capabilities, but also a simple, durable and user-friendly design,†he adds.
Engineered to adapt to a wide range of filming environments, Sanyo said the new Xacti CA100 has a wide-angle 35mm lens, shoots 1080i footage at 60fps, is watertight to a depth of 3 metres and incorporates a 12x Double Range Advanced Zoom function (5 x optical zoom) to help capture even distant events underwater. A built-in light/flash helps to brighten dark underwater scenes, and a bespoke underwater filming mode adjusts colour and contrast ratios to ensure true-to-life colours and brightness for both video and still images. It also features an improved digital image stabilizer.
The Xacti CA100 is now available in the UK, priced around £349, or about $540.
