The new Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED MC fish-eye lens will be available for APS-C and full size sensor cameras from Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony/Minolta. The lens will feature 2 ED lenses, 2 aspherical lenses, an anti-reflective coating, and a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches (28 cm). It is manual focus only, a non-issue with ultra-wide lenses since they provide a deep depth of field anyway.
Samyang is a Korean conglomerate which has diverse interests in chemicals, foodstuff and pharmaceuticals among many others. They may not be very famous in photography products but if you’ve used Vivitar, Sakar and Rokinon lenses then you’ve probably used one of theirs because they have marketed their lenses under those brands.
The Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens will be available in November 2009 for about $360. Samyang Poland has details of the new lens.
