Samsung Techwin, makers of Samsung digital cameras, is claiming a market share of 11 percent in North America in Q1 2007. Quoting market research firm IDC, the company said they have overtaken Nikon during the first quarter by racking up the 11 percent, thanks to its hit product, the feature-packed VLUU digital camera.

The Q1 2007 ranking according to IDC is:

1. Canon – 21%
2. Sony 16%
3. Kodak – 13%
4. Samsung – 11%
5. Nikon – 7%

Samsung Techwin says they now have a clear shot for number 3. The company plans to introduce 20 to 30 new products this year and sell over 13 million units to leap as one of the global Top 3 brands.
