Samsung Electronics is aiming for a top-3 slot in camera sales worldwide by shipping 13-million units this year. In 2006, they shipped 8.6-million units which made them number 5 or 6.
Samsung made the announcement in Taipei Wednesday as it launched two new camera models, the i7 and i70, in the Taiwan market.
In Taiwan itself, Samsung targets a sales volume of 100,000 units for a 10 percent market share this year. Chicony Electronics will continue to be the Taiwan sales agent for Samsung digital cameras for the year.
Some of Samsung’s digital cameras are produced by the company’s subsidiary Samsung Techwin while the rest are made by Taiwan-based Ability Enterprise on an OEM basis. Ability Enterprise is expected to benefit from Samsung’s growing shipments of digital cameras this year.
