Ruggedized Nikon D700 Survives Storm Chases with Jim Reed

Jim Reed Chasing After a Landspout Tornado

Between April 3 and May 31, 2008 – before the rest of us officially knew of the Nikon D700 – photographer Jim Reed was already chasing storms with the new camera.

We might as well call it a ruggedized camera; throughout the storms, the Nikon D700 got soaked, got dirty and at one time got hit by a hailstone. It even got dropped onto a concrete driveway.

Jim writes, “After 18 hard-core storm chases transversing nearly 9,000 miles over 59 days and more than 200 severe weather warnings, I am delighted (and relieved) to report that the D700 not only passed with flying colors, but it exceeded my expectations.”

Jim Reed chases storms for a living and he photographs what he sees during these storm chases. He’s got photos posted on his website doing this with the Nikon D700.
