Plextor calls it “the ultimate CD burner†and one agrees in the sense that it could be the final iteration of an optical disc format that has been eclipsed by the DVD±R/RW format, which in turn is about to be overshadowed by the more capacious HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats.
But of course a good CD burner like the Plextor PX-240A Ultimate 3-in-1 CD-RW Drive still has its uses in archiving data. After all, an 800MB CD-R disc can still pack in a significant amount of photos, music and other data.
Plextor says the PX-240A is RoHS compliant and fully compatible with the new Windows Vista operating system. The new optical drive features recording speeds of 52X CD-R and 32X CD-RW, as well as 52X CD-ROM playback, with broad-base CD media compatibility.
It comes with a 2MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof Technology to prevent buffer underrun errors and allow multi-tasking. The PX-240A drive ships with the Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 for Data software suite for burning video, music, photos, and data to DVD or CD. It is available now for $59.
