Today, September 26th, is the start of the week-long Photokina 2006 photography and imaging trade expo in Cologne, Germany. (Photokina opens at 10am in Germany, while midnight owls are calling it a night in San Francisco (1am) and New York folks are still fast asleep at 4am.)
The stars of the show – Canon EOS 400/Rebel XTi, Nikon D80, Olympus E-400, Leica M8, Pentax K10D, to name just a few – will be in full display at the convention.
The climax to the show has been building up since a few weeks ago, with a slew of new product announcements from industry giants in the imaging industry. Camera makers, printer manufacturers, lens crafters, and others – about 1,600 suppliers in all – are slated to show their wares; it will be the biggest Photokina ever, with 160,000 visitors from all over the world attending the convention.
While there have already been a many announcements in the weeks leading up to Photokina, more major announcements are expected from the industry’s big players.
