This report from Taiwan really piques our curiosity. It mentions a price cut for 10-megapixel cameras from Pentax and Samsung but did not mention what camera models are affected. In the 10-MP lineup Pentax has the Optio A20 compact and K10D SLR, while Samsung has the GX-10, S1050 and NV10.
Of course it would be too much to imagine the K10D and GX-10 digital SLR models to sell below NT$10,000 (US$305). That price level though would be more in line with a competitive price tag for the compact cameras with 10 megapixels.
It appears that Pentax has made OEM orders for camera units from Taiwanese makers Altek and Foxconn while Samsung has increased OEM production by Taiwanese partner Ability Enterprise to reduce production costs. Samsung relies on Pentax technology for its digital SLR offerings.
