Pentax Launches K-r DSLR in Color

Crazy colors, lots of ‘em. Pentax goes full steam ahead with their idea of having the usually staid black DSLR in any color you like with the new K-r digital SLR camera. The new Pentax DSLR is available in all sorts of colors in Japan. You can even have all those various colors in one DSLR.

But don’t let the colors distract from the fact that Pentax continues to make some of the best DSLRs around. The new Pentax K-r has some serious specs: 12.4 megapixels, 3-inch LCD screen with 921K dots of resolution, 6fps in burst mode with up to 25 images in a single sequence, max shutter speed of 1/6000sec and high sensitivity 100-25,600 ISO range, among others.

The Pentax K-r DSLR will ship in October. Body only price is $800; with an 18-55mm kit lens it’s only $850; with double kit lenses 18-55 and 50-200 the price goes up to $900, and higher still at $1,000 for the K-r with two 18-55 and 55-300mm kit lenses.

And yes, all those colors are available only in Japan. If you’re elsewhere, like in Europe or the United States, the K-r will be available only in red, white and the usual black; maybe Pentax thinks you’re not that crazy with colors.
