Leica Discontinues R9 Manual Focus SLR

Leica R9 Manual Focus SLR

Leica says they are discontinuing production of the R9, a manual focus SLR that utilizes the company’s DMR digital backs. In a letter to their dealers, Leica said they have ran out of R9 and R-series lenses and that these would no longer be manufactured.

Despite the announcement, the R9 was still on show at the recently ended PMA 2009 in Las Vegas. A Leica spokesman said they “are working hard on making a generation change possible for the current R-system.”

Is there a Leica R-10 in the works?
