Great simple Photoshop plug-in for photographers

by: Gary Lowell [Flickr], Studio Lighting Contributor

Oh yeah, and did I mention it’s free…..

I just recently discovered the OptikVerve Labs plug-in called virtualPhotographer. What virtualPhotographer does is allow you to quickly sample and then apply common effect templates to your photos. For example if you have a flat boring photo that you want to enhance, you can simply open the file in Photoshop and choose the virtualPhotographer filter. This will allow you to see a sample of what your photo will look like with any of the 50 or so presets they’ve set up for you. You can also do a lot with the custom feature.

See examples below:

So if you are a Windows PC user, all you have to do is go to http://www.optikvervelabs.com/default.asp, download virtualPhotographer and off you go…

I love, love, LUV virtualPhotographer. It is my first stop in the post-production train (especially for fast monochrome conversions), and is a true “bang for the buck” leader.

What is the reason all these “Photoshop Filter Geniuses” seem to be unable to create cross-platform plug-ins? Eh? I *know* it can be done!

I feel for you guys, I really do. I can appreciate your pain. For example Adobe Light Room and Apple Aperature aren’t available for us PC users. :-(
