Notice the UVIR in the name? That’s for UltraViolet InfraRed, and that means Fujifilm’s new version of its FinePix S3 Pro dSLR can take photos where humans can hardly see a thing.
The FinePix S3 Pro UVIR was originally intended for some criminal forensic investigation work – a la CSI – but it also opens other possibilities for creative photographers. This camera allows the photographer to use lens filters for controlling which bands of the light spectrum reach the sensor, and it has a Live Preview LCD, so you can see what your eyes can’t normally see.
The S3 Pro UVIR takes all the same Nikon-mount lenses as the standard version of the camera. The S3 will be available in September for $1800.
