There is new software out there whose only mission in life is to hunt down duplicates of your photos so you may unclog your hard drive if you need to.
The Duplicate Photo Finder by FirmTools can scan your entire hard drive or just a specific folder to search for duplicates. These could be the pictures that you might have uploaded twice or thrice, or more commonly, those that you have made other versions of in the process of photo editing. It intelligently identifies photos with the same or similar images.
Firmtools said the main advantage of their Duplicate Photo Finder is its great simplicity. You will be able to choose between scanning the whole disk and specifying certain folders and the order in which they are scanned. Set the minimum size of pictures and the required level of similarity so as to make the search faster or, if you need quick skimming of vast numbers of photos, use the thumbnail mode, which is less accurate but very fast.
There’s a trial version you can test drive. It’s just a 1.5MB download and it’s free. Introductory price for the Duplicate Photo Finder is $20.
