256GB and solid state, the new Corsair Extreme Series X256 zips along at 240MB per second, reading, and 170MBps, writing. It boasts a combination of the Indilinx Barefoot controller, Samsung flash memory, and a generous onboard DRAM cache of 64MB to achieve those speeds.
It promises fast performance for games and applications. Corsair says it’s stutter free and uses much less power than a conventional hard disk drive and it’s silent because it’s solid state.
The price? About $700 for the X256. The Extreme Series is also available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB configurations.
