Why Did the Olympus E-600 Come After the E-620?

Olympus E-600 Digital SLR Camera

Why did the Olympus E-600 come after the E-620? As an afterthought, of course. Perhaps Olympus figured, “Hey, we can drop the E-620’s backlit buttons, 3 art filters, multi-exposure mode and aspect mask control, and offer a new camera $100 cheaper!”

Will the new $600 price (with a 14-42mm kit lens) entice new buyers? “With the E-600, Olympus has answered the call for a more affordable and creative camera that has everything you could need to get great results,” said John Knaur, senior marketing manager, Digital SLR, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “The new entry-level SLR camera offers something for everyone to enjoy, including in-camera Art Filters (they took out only 3) for expanded creative freedom.”

The 12.3 megapixel E600 features a 270-degree swiveling 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD screen and in-body image stabilization. Due out in November 2009.
