Yes… this is me… yes its a wig… and yes.. it happened at my workshop!
Sorry for being away so long but I had to recuperate from that wild workshop! I’m talking about Monster Lighting Tactics II! The short rundown you ask? Try this: 4 Models, 2 Staff, 16 Students, 10 Strobes, 1 WIND MACHINE (generically called a Home Depot fan), 2 Innovatronix Tronix Explorer Power packs, 45 lens’, 2 Aliens, a vintage 70’s style king and queen, 12 umbrellas, tons of Ebay stuff, 25 light stands, faulty wireless triggers, and a workshop leader in a Wedding Dress with a Tuxedo top with a Rick James wig! After the first 15 minutes of the workshop – participants were hooked! Okay people… it sounds funny, I know… but think of it… you come back from lunch during a grueling workshop and this is what you see. I doubt you’d fall asleep either! From the onset I wanted to show people studio lighting in action! I went immediately into an impromptu shoot… no fore thought no pre-planning. Just setup and go… all on the cheap. Topics I went over… soft boxes, umbrellas, gels, how to get solid black backgrounds, how to beat 12 O’clock Devil Light, diffusion, outdoor flash and tons more! Though the workshop was 5 hours I could’ve went another 5hrs!
Here are some images created by some of the workshop participants…
Are they MONSTERS of Light or WHAT!!!!

Tom Lee said, “It was great! However I wouldn’t mind paying a tad more for a smaller group size! I also
liked the amount of information conveyed especially without a lot of jargon! I think he’s knowledgeable, funny, and able to explain concepts without a lot of jargon.”
Courtney Powell said, “Excellent! Good job David! I came to learn lighting from someone who know it!”
Lou Balicki said, “The Best “NO BULLSHIT” class I’ve ever taken!”
Congratulations to all you guys and girls! Your all certified Monsters of Light and it was fun sharing what I know with you guys and hope you pass the word… Monster Lighting Tactics III is coming!
