The editors of Popular Photography & Imaging have chosen the Nikon D300 SLR as 2007 Camera of the Year. They picked out the D300 from a list of fine DSLRs that included the Canon EOS 40D, Olympus E-3, Pentax K10D, Fujifilm S5 Pro, Lumix L10, Sigma SD14 and Sony A700.
PopPhoto cited the D300 for its high-ISO performance, scoring Excellent in image quality right through ISO 3200 even as it maintained an Extremely High rating at ISO 6400.
They also praised the Nikon DSLR for its fast autofocus system and shooting speed of 6fps.
PopPhoto editors said “none of the eight contenders for this Oscar of the Photo Industry has proven the point as forcefully as the Nikon D300. The camera that best refines or redefines photography? The D300 triumphs on both counts, and raises the benchmark for every camera maker.â€
