While the Panasonic 16GB Pro SDHC memory card may be lagging behind Toshiba’s offering of 32GB in the high-capacity department, it’s good to have a choice. Panasonic’s 16GB SDHC will sell for about $320 vs. $350 for Toshiba’s card with the same capacity. Both will be available next month.
The new 16GB SDHC card from Panasonic (Model No. RP-SDV16GU1K) is rated as Class 6, meaning it can deliver data at a transfer rate of up to 20MBps. It joins the company’s Pro High Speed line which currently includes 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities.
Panasonic says the 16GB high data storage capacity is ideal for AVCHD High Definition recording. When used with Panasonic’s newly released High Definition SD video camera (HDC-SD5), the card can record approximately 4 hours of High Definition video in AVCHD normal mode, and approximately 2 hours 40 minutes of 1920 x 1080i full High Definition video in AVCHD fine mode.
In photo terms, the new Panasonic card can hold about 6,160 still images recorded at a maximum resolution of 10 Megapixels.
