A new firmware has been posted for the Olympus E-3 digital SLR camera. The firmware update will:
• Allow E-3 users to select the AF target by pressing the arrow keys
• Improve AF accuracy when using fast lenses with f2.0 aperture
• Improve C-AF performance
• Improve battery life when using the HLD-4 battery holder
The firmware can be updated through Olympus Master software. The company emphasizes that the ability to update the firmware in E-System components — bodies, lenses, flash units — is one of the key advantages of a 100% digital design. Firmware updates are available through Olympus Master and Olympus Studio software applications.
Please note that an Olympus firmware update will reset all your camera settings to factory settings, so it would be best to record your camera settings before updating the firmware.
