Nikon has grabbed the lead from Canon in total sales of digital SLR cameras in Japan for the month of December 2006.
According to BCN, a Japanese consumer electronics market research firm, Nikon dominated the DSLR market in Japan with 47%. Canon came in second with a market share of 35%, followed by Pentax (10%) and Sony (6%).
Canon had been the constant leader in the Japanese DSLR market, but was edged by Nikon with its highly successful D80 and the very competitive D40.
However, in terms of sales by model, the Canon EOS 400D (Kiss Digital X in Japan, Rebel XTi in the US) maintained its number one spot with 27.3% of the market.
