New York Photo Festival 2008

The New York Photo Festival is calling for entries to the New York Photo Awards 2008, billed as the first major international photo competition based in the United States.

The Festival itself, from May 14-18, will feature curated pavilions, satellite show, the New York Photo Awards, and press coverage. It will be held in Brooklyn’s DUMBO section, that triangle between the entrances to the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges.

The New York Photo Awards will recognize 16 winners and 32 honorable mentions. There’s no mention of cash awards or other goodies, but organizers say the NYPA will honor “talented photographers from all over the world whose work breaks new grounds visually, intellectually, and aesthetically.”

“All Award Winners and Honorable Mentions will enjoy unprecedented visibility for their work. In addition to the New York Photo Awards ceremony, their work will be showcased on the New York Photo Awards and New York Photo Festival websites, and published in leading photo magazines,” organizers added.

Entries are now being accepted until April 14. Only works produced or published between December 1, 2006 and January 31, 2008 are eligible for submission. Entry fees range from $30 to $90.

The New York Photo Festival is a joint initiative of powerHouse Books and VII Photo Agency.
