It used to be that when your flash unit needs a firmware update, you pack it up and send it back to the manufacturer. Well, not anymore.
Flash maker Metz is offering its Mecablitz 58 AF-1, the world’s first USB upgradeable wireless flash. You just connect it to your PC via USB and install its software update yourself, which is as it should be.
And, with wireless infrared, photographers will be able to utilize the 58 AF-1’s full range of functions, including Canon’s E-TTL and Nikon’s i-TTL remote systems. As a commander or a slave unit, the 58 AF-1 is a fully functional and dedicated digital flash.
The 58 AF-1 is available in two models – the 58 AF-1 C for Canon and the 58 AF-1 N for Nikon.
The 58 AF-1 digital also packs quite a punch, offering photographers a max guide number of 190 feet at ISO 100/21° and a focal length of 105mm.
