Leica is in a scramble for some damage control following reports of banding and infrared capture problems in some extreme circumstances in images shot with the new Leica M8 digital rangefinder camera.
The reported problems have been reverberating in the Internet in recent weeks. Leica acknowledged the reports and hinted that the problems could be solved by a simple firmware update.
Leica said “Our technical and engineering teams have isolated the source of these concerns and have identified definitive solutions.”
In another move, Leica has posted three sample images taken by the Leica M8 apparently to dispel any problems with image quality, and Magnum photographer Constantine Manos has created a new series of photographs called “American Color†using the Leica M8.
