Kit Lenses are for n00bs, Real Men Use Real Lenses

Lens Choices

Throw away that kit lens which came with your brand new digital SLR. If you’re serious about your photography, here’s a good read from Peter Kolonia of PopPhoto.com telling you how to choose The Right Lens for the Job.

He says kit lenses are designed “to have compact proportions, light weight, and small price tags. Made for average photographers, shooting in average conditions, with average subjects at average shooting distances, they excel at producing average pictures.”

If you really want to take great photos, not just okay photos, go for the right lenses. Peter tells you what you need to know about macro lenses, ultrawide-angle and telephoto.

Didn’t somebody warn you that DSLR photography was going to be an expensive proposition? Go for it anyway. One lucky photo can pay off all those investment. Even without the money, you’d be happy too taking great photos, not just okay photos. OK?
