How Goes Tamron’s 18-270 Zoom Lens? Slow to Focus But It’s OK, Says DPReview.com

“Where it’s good, it’s actually very good indeed, and even where it’s weak it’s not too far behind the competition,” says DPReview on the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO zoom lens.

It may not be the ideal lens to shoot things that move but it’s a remarkably rewarding lens for the money, writes Andy Westlake in the review, as he commends the lens’ 15x focal range, impressive image quality in the normal to short telephoto range, excellent resistance to flare, 3 stops benefit in its vibration correction system and reasonably compact size for its long telephoto range.

Watch out though for its slow and occasionally indecisive autofocus, some geometric distortion across much of the zoom range and slightly sub-par build quality. The Tamron 18-270mm lens lists for about $600.
