The Tokyo-based Camera and Imaging Products Association is projecting that the total shipment of digital cameras for this year will reach 72.97 million units, up 12.7% compared to 2005.
CIPA is an organization in Japan made up of members engaged in the production or distribution of silver halide cameras, digital cameras, and related devices, instruments and software.
CIPA noted that total shipment of digital cameras increased by a strong 20.3% in volume from the previous year during the first 7 months of 2006. In Japan, domestic shipment of digital cameras with built-in lenses increased 7.9%, and export of digital cameras with built-in lenses increased 22.5%.
