Apple officially announced the new iPod touch today looking more like the highly hyped iPhone and sporting a 3.5†touch screen that provides a simple yet compelling interface to control the device.
It plays nicely with photos too. You tap a button icon to display your albums, and then tap again on an album to display 20 thumbnails at a time. Tap a thumbnail to see the image full screen, then just flick left or right to scroll to the next image.
You can zoom in by pinching thumb and index finger together and move the image around by dragging. Two taps and you’re back to full screen view. The new iPod also does slideshows quite cleverly.
This thing even has Wi-Fi to make it easier to buy music from the iTunes Store. The iPod touch is available in two capacities, 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $399.
Also debuting today was a beefier but stubbier iPod nano, able to display videos and photos, aside from playing music of course.
