Canada’s Zaio Corp. is creating the GeoPic Visual Database, that the company says is a repository of pictures of residential, industrial and commercial properties in major cities across the United States for the purpose of being a tool for real estate appraisals.
ZAIO stands for Zone Appraisal & Imaging Operations and the way they do it is innocuous enough, photographing homes and businesses without trespassing into private property.
But some people are objecting to the move. Zaio’s claim that this is solely an appraisal tool seems counter to logic in that an appraisal cannot be made just off a cursory view of the picture of an outside of a house.
