Toshiba has entered the 1.8-inch external HDD market by introducing a new USB 2.0 mobile external hard drive. The new HDD will be available in 60GB, 80GB and 120GB models.
At the same time, Toshiba is introducing what is probably the highest-capacity 2.5-inch external HDD in the market today at 320GB.
The mobile 1.8-inch external HDD is planned to include encryption and backup software to protect data should the HDD ever be lost or stolen.
Toshiba also said the 2.5-inch external HDD line continues to feature click-free, switch-free and button-free backup for easy operation by any consumer. It comes bundled with the NTI Shadow software, to allow even digital novices to easily conduct computer backup. It offers the industry’s highest areal density per platter, at 200.1 gigabits per square inch.
The 1.8-inch drive will ship this spring, its price still to be announced, while the 2.5-inch 320GB drive will sell for about $200 this month.
