Why is Zenfolio Better than Flickr?

Why is Zenfolio better than flickr?

Number One: You can display really big pictures and you can customize your own site to your heart’s desire.

Number Two: Your Aunt Nellie doesn’t have to be a member of Zenfolio to view your photos, which has become an annoying feature of most photo-sharing sites who want even your grandma to sign up with them to view your photos.

Those two reasons are the only ones I can think of at the moment but they are good enough for me. I’ll pay Zenfolio $40 a year for that, plus unlimited storage capacity. I can access my full size originals any time.

And oh, there are no ads at Zenfolio.

For 25 bucks a year Flickr doesn’t have ads either.

Plus they take pretty HUGE jpgs that I throw up there.

And lastly I’ve learned a great deal from their community.. I’ve basically become close to a professional through learning I’ve done online from flickr.

so i have to give them some props there..

Not tried Zenfolio, but the customisation sounds good if you need that sort of thing.

However, as Daniel says, if you pay $24.95 for the Pro account, Flickr has no ads and maintains the original size images, so you can upload as big as you want. You can’t customize the default viewing sizes, but you can get at the original.

Also, they have recently(ish) added guest passes on sets, so you can send Auntie Mabel and the gang a guest pass to a private set and they will not need an account.

I’m with flickr too. I have a pro account and I love it. I learn a lot from the groups and contribute a lot as well. It’s a great community. I wish they would allow a little more view customization and they probably will in the future. Flickr has already changed quite a bit in the past 2 years.

Flickr is great for discussions, but if you are looking for a way to show off your photos in style, and make it really easy to go through a gallery, and have a ton of control over security settings (down to individual photo level), then Zenfolio is a much better place.

You can also use your own domain name, choose from a number of designs and layouts, and have useful EXIF displayed in a readable form. I am not bashing Flickr, it is great for bloggin and to have chats around images, but it is no Zenfolio.
