Forget Google, the state of New South Wales in Australia has higher resolution images and satellite photos that could give Google Earth a run for their money.
That is, if you’re interested in aerial images from New South Wales only. The NSW Department of Lands has a new resource, called Spatial Information Exchange (SIX), which makes high-resolution images of the state available for public viewing.
It can be accessed by using the SIX Viewer, a free download, via your Internet browser. SIX shows not only satellite images of the present lay of the land, but can also switch you back to 1943 to show how it was when your grandfather was a little younger.
SIX is the result of state government efforts to gather collaborative data from departments like the NSW Fire Brigades, the Bureau of meteorology and the RTA. There’s 60 years worth of archival photography in there.
