Sony announces two new DSLRs, the α390 and α290, both featuring identical 14.2-megapixel CCD sensors. Both are targeted at the entry-level market. Headline feature is the redesigned grip which should now make it easier to hold than previous versions.
Both models feature HDMI output and BRAVIA Sync, for viewing the photos on Sony TV sets. No movie mode for these entry-level DSLRs.
While the two new models are nearly identical, the α390 adds Live View with tilt LCD. Both models will be available with 18-55mm kit lenses this summer, priced at €450 for the α290 and €500 for the α390. They will be $500 and $600, respectively, in the US market.
