Sony also announced today the new full-frame α850 DSLR, a more affordable version of Sony’s flagship α900 DSLR. At $2000, the new α850 has the same 24.6MP Exmor CMOS image sensor and almost all the other features of the more expensive α900 which was introduced last year with a body-only price of $3000.
The α850 DSLR downgraded only in the continuous shooting speed department (now 3fps compared to the α900’s 5fps) and viewfinder coverage (98% vs 100%).
“Sony is bringing the benefits of a full-frame digital SLR camera to a broader group of consumers,†said Kristen Elder, director of the Digital Imaging business at Sony Electronics. “The α850 strengthens Sony’s alpha DSLR line, which now offers models in each step from high-end professional down to the amateur enthusiast.â€
The Sony α850 DSLR will be available next month.
