Sony Introduces 3 New Compact Cameras

Sony Cyber-shot TX9 Digital Camera

Sony introduces two new Cyber-shot compacts, the DSC-TX9 (pictured above) and DSC-WX5, which claim to be the world’s smallest 3D cameras. The new cameras capture 3D images with a single lens system using a sweeping motion.

The TX9 and WX5 also boast extremely low-noise images. To deliver low-noise images, both models feature a ‘Superior Auto’ mode that shoots multiple frames (2 to 6 shots) then combines them to reduce noise. The images can also be combined to boost dynamic range.

Both models utilize Sony’s latest 12.2-megapixel, 1/2.3″ Exmor R back illuminated CMOS sensor. Also in the specs: 4x wide angle optical zoom lens and 2.8-inch LCD for the WX5, and 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD and 25-100mm equivalent lens for the TX9.

Also unveiled was the 14-megapixel DSC-T99 compact featuring a 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD sensor, 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen and 4X 25-100mm optical zoom lens.

All three new cameras will be available in September with retail prices of $400 for the TX9, $300 for the WX5 and $250 for the T99.
