Sony and Kodak: Why Fight? Let’s Volt-in Instead

Kodak Loves Sony

Kodak and Sony are no longer suing each other; instead they’re embracing each other as partners and sharing – yes, sharing – each other’s technologies. That’s lovely, lads, eh? The spirit of Christmas must have touched them so.

More like good business sense, really. The technology cross-license agreement between Sony and Kodak will allow each company broad access to each other’s patent portfolio. And one plus one will likely equal more than two in a synergy of resources.

“We are pleased to have reached a mutually beneficial arrangement that advances the interests of the three companies,” said Laura G. Quatela, Managing Director, Intellectual Property Transactions, and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company. The cross-license deal was signed by Kodak with both Sony Corporation and Sony Ericsson.

They chose to bury the hatchet, kiss and make up, and use each other’s talents instead. Good lads, indeed. Now, if the others can only do the same…
