Sigma Says DP1 Camera to Ship This Spring?

Sigma DP1 Camera, Front View

The Sigma DP1 is a highly anticipated camera because it promises to deliver the full specs and high image quality of a DSLR in the body of a compact camera. After a few snafus from development to delivery, Sigma Corporation finally says yes they can deliver the DP1 digital camera.

Its delivery date is “sometime in the spring,” that’s the whisper in the industry, but we may take comfort in the fact that Sigma has officially launched it at PMA 08 by producing, not the camera, but a press release.

We remember of course that Sigma trumpeted and displayed the DP1 prototype at PMA 2007 with an announced tentative launch date of Spring 2007. It was first announced at Photokina 2006.

We understand that the challenge is great – marrying the specs and capabilities of an SLR with the compact body of a stylish camera – but this is the second year that the company announced a spring date for the DP1; Sigma must keep its word this time.

Camera buffs are just dying to get hold of such a camera.
