Sigma Corporation of America announces that the new Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens, released in Tokyo last July, is now available in the United States. Price is $2,470, supplied with a tripod collar and a petal type lens hood.

The OS designations means it is optically stabilized and Sigma claims that their unique OS implementation allows the use of shutter speeds 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. That should make it easier to shoot in telephoto mode where the longer zoom would normally require faster shutter speeds.

The new lens is constructed of 22 elements in 17 groups. Sigma said the two FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberration.
