Scott Kelby’s Lighting Gear Week

Scott Kelby with Camera and Flash

Great news for studio lighting n00bs: Scott Kelby is doing a week of posts dedicated to nothing but lighting gear. If you’re new to DSLR shooting and as yet unfamiliar with studio lighting for location or in-studio photography, Scott’s “Lighting Gear Week” is sure to be of help.

Day One, which is today, starts off with a budget lighting setup for wedding or portrait location. Scott recommends a flash unit (SB-800 Speedlight for Nikon users and the 580 EX II for Canon shooters), a light stand, hot shoe adapter/swivel and a diffuser to spread and soften the light.

All in all a $375 setup for Nikon shooters and $475 for Canon users, for starters. But if you a have little more cash and you want more flexibility, Scott will take it up to the next level of lighting control. And that’s for tomorrow’s post.
