Saudi Arabia Lifts Photography Ban

In the Islamic state of Saudi Arabia, a recent ban on public photography has been lifted in an effort to boost tourism. According to Middle East Online the interior ministry repealed the ban based on a vote passed a year ago.

A Saudi Arabian official commented, “People can now take pictures of tourist sites, architectural landmarks, shopping malls as well as government buildings where there is no sign banning photography.”

Exempt from photography are the Royal palaces around Saudi Arabia, declared private property, thus requiring authorization. Under pressure, King Abdullah told local newspapers and media to keep from publishing the pictures of Saudi women.
