Sandisk & Pretec Offer 16GB CF Cards

Two companies are going head-to-head in the race to offer large capacity memory cards in the digital imaging industry. Flash memory makers Sandisk and Pretec are both exhibiting their latest offerings in this week’s Photokina in Cologne, Germany. Sandisk introduced their 12- and 16-GB Extreme III CompactFlash cards while Pretec unveiled their 16GB CF card at the photography and imaging trade show.

Sandisk said their new high-performance, large-capacity cards are ideal for professional photographers who shoot RAW or high-resolution JPG files and need the performance, reliability and capacity to capture these large files. Sandisk also unveiled their 4GB Ultra II SD card at the Photokina.

Pretec, meanwhile, continues to tout its stellar performance in the flash memory race. The company said it has consistently demonstrated the highest capacity and fastest speed CompactFlash in the world such as 3GB (Nov. 2002, Las Vegas, Comdex), 6GB (March 2003, Hanover, CeBIT), 12GB (March 2004, Hanover, CeBIT) and 16GB (Sept. 2006, Photokina).
