Sandisk 32GB 2.5” Solid State Drives Now Available

Sandisk 32GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

SanDisk today announced the availability of its 32GB 2.5-inch solid state drive (SSD) to replace hard disks in mainstream notebook PCs. The new SATA-interface SSD comes in the heels of a recently announced 1.8-inch SSD for ultraportable notebooks.

SanDisk says the 2.5-inch SSD brings the extreme durability, outstanding performance and low power consumption of solid-state flash memory to the entire notebook computer market.

The new drive fits in the same internal slot as traditional 2.5-inch hard disks, so notebook manufacturers can switch to the SanDisk SSD without altering their hardware designs.

Solid state drives last six times more than the old ones, about two million hours mean time between failures (MTBF) and it moves data 100 times faster with a sustained read rate of 67MBps.

They’re also more power efficient, needing only 0.9 watts versus 1.9 watts for hard disks drives, and they’re cool and quiet because there are no motors or any moving parts.

The 32GB, 2.5-inch SanDisk SSD is available now to computer manufacturers, with initial pricing of $350 for large volume orders.
