Samsung to Release Fast 256GB SSD in September

Samsung 256GB FlashSSD

Samsung has unveiled a bigger and faster solid state drive, the 256GB FlashSSD, twice the size of its previous model and more than twice faster.

The new solid state drive writes at a speed of 160MBps, compared to the 70MBps write speed of the 128GB model. While faster and more capacious, the new drive promises to be even cheaper and more durable because it will be manufactured using the lower-cost and robust multi-level cell (MLC) technology.

The 256GB Samsung FlashSSD is enclosed in a very thin chassis measuring 9.5×69.85×100.3mm, making it ideal for thin and light notebooks.

Samsung is scheduled to begin shipping samples of the new drive to its manufacturing customers in September, with mass production slated by year end.
