Samsung has introduced its own version of a very tiny hard drive, with a single 1.8-inch platter that spins at 4200RPM, but packs 60GB of storage capacity. Samsung says it’s a world’s first but Seagate actually made their own similar announcement last January 7.
But whoever is first matters less than the fact that it is really a remarkable product. Samsung’s new N-series of 1.8-inch HDDs now feature capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB.
These babies are among the quietest on the market today, Samsung says, with only 1.8 Bel of whisper – just below the human threshold of 2 Bel so you won’t hear it at all, and consumes just 0.3 watt of power.
