Ricoh Updates Caplio R5 Firmware, Again

Ricoh Caplio R5

Was it just three months ago that Ricoh first updated its Caplio R5 firmware? Since then they have issued four updates in succession to either correct some bugs or enhance the camera’s capabilities, sounds very much like a work in progress.

The latest update – version 1.55 dated Dec. 26, 2006 – is meant to improve the stability of the camera’s USB connection to computers.

Ricoh updated connectivity problems between the camera and the SD memory card only last November. In October, two separate updates were released. The first one improved the color balance and quality of the LCD screen and the pictures displayed on it, made the macro mode’s auto focus more accurate, and fixed the histogram display. The second update improved the accuracy of the automatic white balance setting and addressed some of the SD memory card connectivity problems. It’s beginning to look like they rushed the Caplio R5 to market, and then at hindsight, tried to improve it along the way.

If you own the Caplio R5, the firmware update may be downloaded from here.
