Ricoh Corp. has released its GPS-ready digital camera for outdoor location-based photography or geo-imaging.

The Ricoh 500SE features an integrated precision GPS module that records the geographic location of images at the time of capture. Waterproof and shock-resistant, the camera boasts of a ruggedized build quality that the company claims has been tested in the flood waters of New Orleans and the sands of Iraq.

The 8-megapixel camera is primarily a tool for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professionals who need to associate photos and videos with a point on a map.
