Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 is Blah

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

The long and short of it is: don’t buy this camera. Cameras are all about pictures, and picture quality is what’s it all about. If you don’t deliver on image quality, you’re not a good camera. Simple.

The PhotographyBLOG review on Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 may have been just polite to give it four stars and mark it Recommended, but it “hoped that Panasonic would make significant improvements” on image quality, specifically the issue of noise.

It said that the LX2 at “ISO 200, which isn’t exactly a fast speed, displays some noise, with ISO 400 being both noisy and blurred as the camera attempts to mask the noise; ISO 800 and 1600 should simply be avoided if possible.”

DPreview also marked it Recommended
(with reservation), blaming its “noisy sensor and – much more importantly – a processing engine that replaces fine detail with smeary, watercolor-like artefacts.”

For its price of about $500, the LX2 is a very expensive compact; you can buy a decent DSLR, like a Nikon D50 complete with a kit lens, at that price point.
