Figures from market research firm GfK show that sales of digital SLR cameras in the United Kingdom jumped 32.5 percent in value during the first quarter of 2008 compared to the same January to March period last year.

In number of units, UK consumers bought 15 percent more DSLRs during the period. For March 2008 alone, the figure is even higher at 21 percent compared to the same month last year.

“I think this will be the pattern in DSLR for the year and, as such, the sales value goes some way to rescue the overall market value, with the total market up 6.8% in value for the quarter, which is a very positive situation,” said a GfK spokesman.
