Membership in the Professional Photographers of America has been growing at a steady clip for the past several years, but in 2006 and 2007 the numbers posted record highs.

The PPA recorded the following growth rates of membership over the years: 2003, 6 percent; 2004, 6 percent; 2005, 7 percent; 2006, 15 percent; and at the end of April 2007 alone, it registered 13 percent growth.

PPA membership has passed 18,000 paid members to date, a high point in the association’s 127-year history. Between 2002 and 2007, the association has grown 45 percent.

The PPA offers professional photographers education, protection and business programs.

The association recently joined with 28 other organizations to launch the Copyright Alliance in Washington, D.C. The alliance is committed to protecting copyright, the men and women whose livelihood depends on copyright, and the 11.3 million American jobs based on copyright-related businesses and industries.
