Photrade Unveiled at DEMOfall 08 in San Diego CA

Photrade, which is still in beta, made an appearance today at the DEMOfall 08 conference in San Diego, promising a one-stop consumer website where photographers can store, organize, share, protect and make money from their photos.

So, is it a stock photo distributor like Getty Images or iStockPhoto, or a photo sharing site like Flickr or Facebook? I took a cursory look, even gone through the motions of signing up for an account, and the impression I got was that it’s more like a stock photo distributor, complete with various schedules for pricing your photos if you want to sell them.

Photrade says it has solved key photo licensing issues from two angles. First, it has built an innovative protection platform that makes it more difficult to steal images. Second, Photrade provides simple, low-cost legal alternatives to use or purchase digital images.

And while it criticizes large photo stock houses for giving photographers only 20% to 30% from the sale of their photos, Photrade does not state whether a photographer gets 100% under their business model.
